What is Child Life?

Child Life is an area of pediatric care that exists within the pediatric in-patient units of many hospitals. Those who specialize in this area of care are referred to as Child Life Specialists. It is the job of these amazingly dedicated individuals to help children cope with their medical situations through play, education about their circumstance, preparation for what they may face, and various modes of self-expression. It is the job of these individuals to make the hospital environment less scary for those children being treated. In addition to their work with children, Child Life Specialists work to educate families and serve as pillars of support for family members during these challenging experiences.

What is the advantage of making my donation through Help A Hospital?

Often times when people choose to make a monetary donation to a hospital, they are left not knowing where their donation is going and what it will be providing. However, by choosing to donate through Help A Hospital, individuals are afforded the opportunity to donate uniquely wished for items to a hospital of their choosing. These items help those children who find themselves in these hospitals for lengthy stays maintain a sense of normalcy within the hospital environment.

Is Help A Hospital a non-profit?

While Help A Hospital is not a 501 (c) (3), it remains an organization dedicated to the very act of giving. It is our mission to provide those working in Child Life with the gifts they need to perform their jobs to the very best of their ability. In choosing to remain a for-profit, Help A Hospital hopes to reach more hospitals while free from the constraints of maintaining 501 (c) (3) status and the subsequent need for ongoing fundraising to support our efforts.

Are HAH costs per item comparable to those found at popular retail stores?

Yes! The prices found on Help A Hospital are comparable and/or reflect those listed at large retail stores. Furthermore, Help A Hospital does not charge donors shipping and handling for their delivery. Sales tax for each individual item is calculated based upon the location of the hospital(s) receiving your donation.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Your gift to the hospital of your choosing is an In-Kind Donation. You will need to keep a copy of your HAH Confirmation e-mail as a record of the cost of your In-Kind donation. This combined with your tax receipt for that In-Kind Donation from the corresponding hospital is required for tax purposes.

How can I confirm that the hospital has received my donation?

Help A Hospital tracks all donations to ensure their arrival at the appropriate hospital. Upon confirming their arrival, you will receive a second e-mail from Help A Hospital to notify you that your donation was received.
